First Rant. art galleries

Sat Feb 23, 2008, 8:06 AM
Hey lookie my first rant...
Art galleries, something needs to be done. I love and hate art galleries, I've been going to them all my life in a half a dozen countries (currant favourite tate modern in London) and for the love of art how did they become so stuffy, so silent... I always thought art was to be enjoyed, to be celebrated, loved, to inspire and make everyone's day just that little bit better, but now I go to an art gallery, Everyone, I mean everyone is silent... We go around causully staring at the art, musing, silenting apprecating the art T_T... christ that sucks. Here's a collection of art, a montage of idea's, dreams, inspiration, beauty lining every corner and covering every wall. But you can't join in with this.. you need to be quiet, no kids running laughing enjoying the damn place, if you talk it's in whispers and for some reason this is encouraged a sort of unwritten bloody social rules.

What could be done to make these places truly social? Music is also a good start doesn't matter what type but a little, low volume music always attracts people, not loud enough so peolpe can't hear each other, but not so everything silent.
Kids... encouraged kids to come to art, they speak their mind, they can be the best critics and can really tell if something is a good piece of art. For example I was with my cousin recently in an art garden, looking at some nude statue, being vaugly arty about it, "what does the tree he leaning against represent?" "what art era is this?" and a little kid ran up pointed at the statue and in a loud clear voice said "Willy!" bloody halarious for a start and he got scolded be his mum, but he was right. The pose of the statue was "hey look at this!" smart kid I thought.
Last I can think up more interactive art, sruff with walls, panels and tounh screens playing music, movemet sensors god those need to be handed over to artists, think what you could do with them. People love statues to mess around with :D. There was a art piece I saw at the tate modern recently sort of walls made from words hanging from the celing, impressive piece. but there was a sign "ONLY TWO PEOPLE AT A TIME, NO TOUCHING THE WALLS GRR >_<!" bit annoying I go in hey nice art can't poke the walls, can't run around in it but I can live with that I'll just enjoy it... security guard "hey put away the camera", "but I want to take a pic of my friend in the art piece", "NO cameras grrr", How can I record I've had a nice day, if I can't take any photos? I understand a bit about the copyright business, but can't I take a photo of a model or two with my friend? noooooo... best I can get is some bloody postcard, not nearly as fun.

But basically more interactive, more music, more kids and people, and take away that damn "be silent" rule. Laugh, enjoy,be inspired by the art please. Any other idea you have to improve galleries I'd like to hear :D

Also turned 17 last wednesday :) great birthday, I'm gonna be learning to drive soon :D

Also also I've got a tablet drawing program for my DS once I've got the hang of it I might post some art from it up, thing's awesome :D

wow.... long entry XD
also a bit impressive, with some nice ideas. ^^
but don't go to far with the freedom for kids, because if you take your eyes of them for a second and they come to near to a picture... well, that can be very destructive, know what i mean? XD
:iconmrfrapples:
Solution: put the pictures slightly higher up hopefully they can't reach :) mabye a barrier or 2, but I see what you mean ^^

i don't think we want the mona lisa to be ripped into pieces, do we? ;)
(i actually don't like this one so much... but i think it's one of the best examples ;) especially because it has the right size for a child to hold it in both hands and destroy it :D)
